Custom Properties & Tags
Overview
Custom Properties & Tags allows administrators to define custom data fields for contacts and manage tags for organizing conversations. Custom properties extend the contact profile with fields specific to your business, while tags provide a flexible labeling system for categorizing contacts.
How to Access
- Navigate to Settings > Company
- Click the Properties tab
- Requires the Contact Admin role and an active subscription
- The left sidebar has two sections: Contacts (custom properties) and Tags
Interface Overview
The Properties tab has a two-panel layout:
- Left sidebar: Navigation between Contacts (custom properties) and Tags
- Right content area: Displays the selected section's management interface
Contacts (Custom Properties) Section
- An Add New button to create a new property
- A data table listing existing properties with columns: ID, Name, Data Type, Actions
- Each property has an actions dropdown with Edit and Delete options
Tags Section
- Action buttons: Clear, Select Page, Select All, Add, Delete Selected, Edit
- A searchable, selectable data table listing all tags with columns: checkbox, Name, Contacts count
- Multi-select support for bulk operations
Features & Actions
Add a Custom Property
What it does: Creates a new custom field that appears on all contact profiles.
Steps:
- In the Contacts section, click Add New
- A dialog opens with:
- Name: Enter the property display name
- ID: Auto-generated from the name (lowercase, underscores replacing spaces); can be edited
- Data Type: Select from the dropdown (e.g., Text, Number, Date, Boolean, Multiple Choice)
- If you selected Multiple Choice, additional option fields appear:
- Three default option fields are shown
- Click Add to add more options
- Click the trash icon to remove an option
- Click Submit to create the property
Important notes:
- The Name and ID fields are required
- The Data Type must be selected
- The ID is auto-generated but can be manually modified
- Multiple Choice options must have values filled in
Edit a Custom Property
What it does: Updates the name and multiple choice options of an existing custom property.
Steps:
- Click the actions dropdown (three dots) next to the property
- Select Edit
- A dialog opens with:
- Name: Edit the display name
- Multiple Choice options (if applicable): Add, edit, or remove options
- Click Submit to save changes
Important notes:
- The data type cannot be changed after creation
- The ID cannot be changed after creation
- For Multiple Choice properties, you can add new options or remove existing ones
Delete a Custom Property
What it does: Permanently removes a custom property from all contact profiles.
Steps:
- Click the actions dropdown next to the property
- Select Delete
- A confirmation dialog appears
- Click Delete to confirm
Important notes:
- Deleting a property removes it from all contacts
- Any data stored in that property field is lost
- This action cannot be undone
Add a Tag
What it does: Creates a new tag that can be applied to contacts for categorization.
Steps:
- In the Tags section, click Add
- Enter the tag Name in the dialog
- Click Submit
Edit a Tag
What it does: Renames an existing tag.
Steps:
- Select exactly one tag by clicking its checkbox
- Click Edit
- Enter the new name
- Click Submit
Important notes:
- Only one tag can be edited at a time
- The rename applies to all contacts that have this tag
Delete Tags (Bulk)
What it does: Removes one or more selected tags from the system and from all contacts.
Steps:
- Select tags using checkboxes (use Select Page or Select All for bulk selection)
- Click Delete Selected
- A confirmation dialog shows the list of tags to be deleted
- Click Delete to confirm
Important notes:
- Multiple tags can be deleted at once
- The Contacts column shows how many contacts are tagged with each tag
- Deleting a tag removes it from all contacts that had it
Selection Tools
What it does: Provides bulk selection options for the tags table.
- Clear: Deselects all selected tags
- Select Page: Selects all tags visible on the current page
- Select All: Selects all tags across all pages

FAQ
Q: What data types are available for custom properties? A: The available data types are loaded from the server and typically include Text, Number, Date, Boolean, and Multiple Choice.
Q: Can I change the data type of an existing custom property? A: No. The data type is set at creation and cannot be changed. To use a different type, create a new property and optionally delete the old one.
Q: Will deleting a tag remove it from all contacts? A: Yes. Deleting a tag removes the association from all contacts that had it.
Q: How many custom properties can I create? A: There is no hard-coded limit in the interface. Practical limits depend on your subscription plan.
