Notification Preferences
Overview
Notification Preferences let you control how you receive alerts for new messages and events in Aurora Inbox. You can enable or disable sound notifications and manage browser desktop notifications.
How to Access
- Navigate to Settings > Profile
- Click the Notifications tab
Interface Overview
The Notifications tab contains:
- A Sound Notification toggle switch
- A Browser Notifications toggle switch (currently disabled in the interface)
- An Enable Notifications button (shown if browser notifications have not been allowed yet)
- An instructional message if browser notifications have been blocked
Features & Actions
Toggle Sound Notifications
What it does: Enables or disables audio alerts when new messages arrive in the inbox.
Steps:
- Go to Settings > Profile > Notifications tab
- Click the Sound Notification toggle switch
- The setting is saved automatically
Important notes:
- When enabled, a sound plays each time a new message arrives
- The change takes effect immediately
- This is a personal setting and does not affect other team members
Browser Desktop Notifications
What it does: Controls whether the browser shows desktop notification popups for incoming messages.
Steps:
- Go to Settings > Profile > Notifications tab
- If you see an Enable Notifications button, click it to request browser permission
- Your browser will prompt you to allow or block notifications
- If allowed, desktop notifications will appear for new messages
Important notes:
- This feature depends on your browser's notification permissions
- If you previously blocked notifications, you will see instructions to re-enable them:
- Click the lock icon in your browser's address bar
- Find the notifications setting
- Change it to "Allow"
- The desktop notifications toggle is currently disabled in the interface (notifications are controlled entirely through browser permissions)

FAQ
Q: Why don't I hear notification sounds? A: Ensure the Sound Notification toggle is turned on. Also check that your device volume is not muted and that your browser tab is not muted.
Q: I blocked browser notifications by accident. How do I re-enable them? A: Click the lock or info icon in your browser's address bar, find the notification setting, and change it to "Allow." Then reload the page.
Q: Do notification preferences sync across devices? A: Sound notification preference is stored on the server and applies to all sessions. Browser notification permissions are per-browser and must be set on each device separately.
